Rainier Junior Senior High School’s Rotary student of the month for May is senior Dayton Boursaw. Dayton is the son of Ron Boursaw and the late Amanda Hungerford.
Dayton is an outstanding student and is active in track and field, as well as National Honor Society and is the valedictorian of the class of 2025 at Rainier High School. Dayton is a quiet leader, who gives 100% effort 100% of the time. Dayton helps out in the office as a TA and he often gets stuck with the job of delivering mail from the District Office to the high school. If you’ve ever been to our campus, you know that this is a lot of walking and a lot of stairs. Dayton does the job without complaining and exudes competence in every task he is given.
Outside of school, Dayton enjoys gaming and hanging out with family and friends.
Dayton has enlisted in the United States Navy and after graduation, at the end of June, he will be shipping off to boot camp. He has chosen aircrew as his rate, so after boot he will be going to aircrew school at Pensacola, then to a training squadron, and from there to the fleet. Aircrew is a 6 year contract; once his enlistment is completed he will go “where the winds blow” him. As the parent of 2 sailors, I might be a little biased when it comes to students who choose to serve, but Dayton represents the best of qualities that we, as educators and parents, strive to instill. There are not many higher purposes than choosing to serve your country, and if it isn’t obvious, I am tremendously proud of Dayton and can’t wait to see the places he will go.
Dayton is driven, talented, and hard working. He is always willing to help and is trustworthy and embodies the character traits of kindness, honesty, integrity, and humility. When Dayton says he will do something, he does it. He is a great role model for other students and, like a couple of our previous students of the month, being an outdoor school counselor he is also now a quasi-celebrity with Hudson Park 6th graders.
Dayton would like to thank his mom and dad, his family, and his teachers. Dayton is bound for great things and I am very excited to follow his journey!
